Excavation questions, answered
Del Rosa Excavation answers the questions San Bernardino owners ask most before a dig.
Cost
What is the hourly rate for an excavator with an operator?
$185 to $325 an hour around San Bernardino, plus mobilization of $300 to $850 per job.
What does a pool dig cost?
$3,000 to $8,500 for the excavation. Pool removal runs $7,000 to $30,000 depending on partial or full removal.
What does it cost to haul dirt away?
$175 to $400 a truckload depending on distance and whether the load is clean fill.
Why does a deep trench cost more per foot than a shallow one?
At 5 feet Cal/OSHA Title 8 section 1541.1 applies to any trench a worker enters: a trench shield, shoring or sloped walls, a ladder within 25 feet and the spoil set back 2 feet from the edge. A sewer lateral 7 feet down in the street is that trench, and the shield and the slower pace land on your quote.
Timing
How soon can a job start?
After the permit if one is needed, and at least two working days after the DigAlert ticket, whose marks stay good for 28 days. Simple jobs without a permit can start within a week or two.
How long does an ADU pad take?
Usually one to three days of machine work, plus compaction testing and inspection.
